A cover that doesn’t just replay the song but understands the meaning and sentiment behind the original.
Well, this is definitely one of the BEST covers ever made in all history.
このカバーを探して、やっと辿り着きました。 また、聴けて嬉しい☺️
I heard this while driving alone at night on a desolate highway in New Mexico in 1994. On the radio.
Everything was sooo Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks back then!
Haunting, beautiful rendition of an already flawless song, at its core. Captures the sadness, the melancholy so perfectly.
I’ve been listening to this masterpiece at least once a day for years. It’s amazing the emotions and tone of the song match the message so perfectly. Especially the sad guitar cord. The deep breath. This is real music. One of the greatest covers and songs of all time.
Credit to these guys for managing to pull off sinister and wholesome at the same time.
Sonic Youth’s characteristic distortion with the Carpenters original vocal softness. Beautiful rereading. I remember when I watched in MTV in 1993. I miss!
This is what a "cover" is. Capturing the emotion of the song, emphasizing on the subtle details and transferring it to audience in the best way. From the instruments to Thurston's haunting vocals and back noises, turns this great tune into a modern melancholic masterpiece.
This is as beautiful and eerie as the Original, but in a completely SONIC YOUTH way. Remarkable that band could pull off this particular cover in such a weird, sensitive manner. Totally fits. The Carpenters & Sonic Youth: truly creative, original American artists. Bravo!
About seven years ago I went to LA for the sole purpose of seeing a Pearl Jam & Sonic Youth show. The night before that, some friends and I went to a little dive karaoke bar to kill some time, and Kim and Thurston were there. Just singing karaoke, like no big deal. I don't think anyone else there even knew what they were being treated to. It was strange to see them play to a room of people who barely mustered up the strength to do a courtesy applause one night, then the next seeing thousands of people screaming at every little thing they did. But maybe that's what they liked about the bar - Being treated normally. Ahh, so cool. :)
One of the best covers done in history. Hands down.
SONIC YOUTH - LYRIC. Long ago And oh so far away I fell in love with you Before the second show Your guitar It sounds so sweet and clear But you're not really there It's just the radio Don't you remember you told me you love me baby? You said you'd be coming back this way again baby Baby baby baby baby, oh baby I love you, I really do Loneliness Is such a sad affair And I can hardly wait To be with you again What to say To make you come again Come back to me again And play your sad guitar Don't you remember you told me you love me baby? You said you'd be coming back this way again baby Baby baby baby baby, oh baby I love you, I really do Don't you remember you told me you love me baby? You said you'd be coming back this way again baby Baby baby baby baby, oh baby I love you, I really do

"Superstar" contains so much in its chords, melody and spirit that Sonic Youth and Luther Vandross can both own it in very different versions.
When Sonic Youth made a cover.... They transform it into their own.
So I love the Carpenters and always saw this song pop up, heard of it but thought it was their original song. This made me cry and gave me chills, lve never experienced a cover like this. His voice, facial expressions, body language, the photos of Karen. Wow.
i think this is the best cover of all time
