But when they arrived, they found no wolf and saw the boy laughing at their expense. The villagers were annoyed but returned to their work, leaving the boy to his amusement.
A few days later, the boy grew bored again and decided to repeat his prank. He cried, "Wolf! Wolf!" once more. The villagers, although skeptical, hurried to help him again, only to be met with the boy’s laughter. Realizing they had been fooled again, they were very angry and scolded the boy for his deceit. The shepherd boy found this all very funny and continued his pranks whenever he felt bored.
One day, a real wolf appeared from the forest and started attacking the sheep. The boy, terrified, shouted at the top of his lungs, "Wolf! Wolf! Please help! A wolf is attacking the sheep!" This time, however, the villagers, remembering the boy’s previous false alarms, ignored his cries. They assumed he was trying to trick them again.
Desperate, the boy screamed and pleaded for help, but no one came to his aid. The wolf attacked the flock, killing many sheep before disappearing back into the forest. The shepherd boy was devastated. He had learned a harsh lesson: because of his repeated lies, no one believed him when he was finally telling the truth.
The villagers shook their heads in disappointment when they discovered the aftermath. They reminded the boy of the importance of honesty and the damage caused by his foolish games. From that day forward, the boy vowed never to lie again, understanding that trust, once broken, is difficult to restore.
Moral: Liars are not believed even when they speak the truth.
