What Happened on Beacon Island? | Mysterious Islands | National Geographic UK

In the 1600s, a shipwreck, murder and mutiny took place on Beacon Island, 50 miles (80 kilometres) off the coast of Western Australia. The Batavia was wrecked on the Morning Reef in June 1629 while on its journey to Batavia in the former Dutch East Indies (present day Jakarta, Indonesia). Mysteries remain about just what happened on this remote coral island in the Indian Ocean.
